Roman Army conscripts posted to far away lands = multiculturalism.

Should we follow that example?

Perhaps the multiculturalism is not in where they were posted to but in the fact that the Roman Army drew its soldiers from the entire Empire. That the Empire was the Empire and all within it were its citizens (well more or less), a bit like the Austro-Hungarian Empire over a thousand years later (which called itself the Holy Roman Empire though the parallels are... lacking), and unlike the British or French empires, say.

What I object to is the intrusion of current political dogma into what should be a rational analysis of what they have found.

The Romans were thieves. Not that I'm being political there of course. But they were.

They stole things and they stole people.

Surely that's just multi-sourcing of troops, not multiculturalism?

Weren't the Roman Army personnel only classed as proper citizens after they had served a full term in the Army (20 years?) and been given their honorable discharge papers?

Interesting video. And shows how someone with practical skills can solve problems that would be theoretical otherwise.

I like the remark 'it's a pretty joint. Would look nice in an Islington cafe'.

But how about the Vikings sailing to Shetland?

They find out how to use a tarbert to cross the boat overland from the North Sea to the Atlantic.

And the final shot of the ship with sail up gliding past a big oblong hole through the cliff seems to suggest that perhaps they weren't so accidental and natural after all.
