Well, it promised to be fascinating till the archaeologist said he'd discovered that the Stonehenge we see now is not the earliest version and went on to say no-one had connected it to the nearby Durrington Walls site. Duh.

The low point was his statement that the two parallel lines precisely aligned with the angle of the solstice were "a coincidence". The positioning of the circle is more significant surely than an apparently random coincidence would suggest, he touched on this point by saying anyone from Orkney to Kent or Cornwall could reach it but without further comments.

[The 'mystery' of the Durrington Walls inhabitants who packed up their bags and left after 45 years or so seemed clear enough; the work was completed, he even said this was where the workmen were housed. The time-scale is comparable to medieval churches and cathedrals.]

Ha ha! Was this a Civil Servant Archaeologist? As in, "we know of no evidence that ..... ". Which means "we haven't looked or asked".

I didn't find it a convincing doco Harriet. Put together a few reasons why in link below:

I've found the mirrors - £1.50 each at the moment.

That's not bad considering they were £1.25 each in 2007 Boreades. Might get a few more myself.

A very fair-minded critique, Jon. I found it unconvincing too, but do you think the book is worth reading?

I do: The book contains a few assumptions so you have to know what to filter out, but otherwise it's very interesting and contains quite a bit of new information. Shame about the documentary.

Hi Mick

Might be some sort of frame problem? Accessing it through the domain using a separate tab (or window) might work:

As soon as my Finance Director (Mrs Boreades) gives permission, we'll be off to IKEA to get a trolley-load. Thanks for the page on how to frame them!
